Two-Day Tutu Making
Duration: 14 hrs
Class times: 10am - 6pm
Course tutor: Amanda Hall
This unique course is aimed at anyone who loves theatre costumes, performs classical ballet or has a friend or relative who performs, either as an amateur or professional.
Over the two days students will work towards making and fitting a professional 10-layer, 16-inch wide tutu skirt using specialist tulle and dance materials. Tutor Amanda Hall, dancewear specialist, creates tutus for the Royal Ballet and she will guide you through all necessary details including measuring, cutting, pleating, sewing and assembling to a Royal Ballet standard. You will learn the techniques of how to make an authentic, traditional ballet tutu in a professional way.
Included in the price are specialist materials including stiff net and tulle from Whaleys of Bradford, as well as cotton bobbinet, cotton drill, petersham ribbon in white.
Although Prescott & Mackay endeavour for each student to complete their tutu this may not always be possible. Students will receive enough tuition and notes during the class to be able to complete their tutu at home.
Things you need to bring with you:
- sharp scissors
- notebook
- pencil
- Duvet or Sheet to transport you tutu home
No previous tutu-making experience necessary. Basic sewing techniques are recommended.
Class maximum: 4 students
